Mounting your blades to your boots
Soles should be waterproofed prior to the mounting of blades (leather soles).
Have your blades mounted by someone who knows what they are doing as once there are holes in your sole it is not easy to change these.
The front edge of your blade sole plate should be in line or as close to, the front edge of your sole with no more than about 6mm gap to rear of the sole. Adjusting screws installed to allow for personal position. Please be aware that boot seem lines are generally not in the center of your boot as they are essentially hand made.
When blades are being mounted for the first time there should be 4 adjustable mounting screws installed. This allows for blade adjustment if necessary.
It is important to have level edges before attempting on ice alignment checks for final positioning. If they are out of level they will give false reading and your blades will not be centered correctly. A factory sharpen does not guarantee level edges therefore we always recommend a check of the levels of the edges and a sharpen, if necessary, at the same time as installing the mounting screws (it is always recommended to have a proper sharpen before use on the ice). The position of the mounting screws is important to allow for adjustment as needed as well as being able to keep the blade mounted straight.
Once you have your mounting screws installed it is best to have a professional check your blade position while on the ice. It may be necessary to make multiple adjustments in order to achieve the correct placement before more screws are installed (this can come down to fractions of millimeters). We feel it is important not to use all screw holes as you may need these in the future if your feet or body change and your blade needs adjusting or changing blades.
If your blades haven’t been mounted correctly, even when you have level edges you may also have troubles finding one edge or one edge may feel ‘blunt’.
